St. Michael’s School Appoints Dr. Matthew Teller as Next Head of School
The Board of Trustees of St. Michael’s School and the Vestry of St. Michael and All Angels Church are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Matthew Teller as the next Head of School, effective for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Dr. Teller was selected following a thoughtful and mission-driven search process designed to identify the leader best positioned to guide St. Michael’s into its next chapter. After extensive evaluation and community-centered deliberations, the Search Committee unanimously recommended Dr. Teller’s appointment, a decision that was subsequently approved by the Board of Trustees and confirmed by the Vestry.
A familiar and respected member of the St. Michael’s community, Dr. Teller brings a unique combination of leadership experience, institutional knowledge, and deep commitment to the school’s mission. He has served St. Michael’s as a parent of two alumni, Associate Head of School, Director of Enrollment, and faculty member, developing strong relationships across the school community and a profound understanding of its academic, spiritual, and cultural traditions.

For more than 25 years, Dr. Teller has dedicated his career to independent education in Tucson. Before joining St. Michael’s, he taught Spanish and served as Upper School Principal and later Head of School at Green Fields Country Day School. He also taught Spanish at The Gregory School before returning to St. Michael’s. His leadership experience spans enrollment management, academic administration, faculty development, and strategic planning.
Dr. Teller holds a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition and an M.A. in Spanish Linguistics from the University of Arizona, as well as a B.S. in Psychology from Georgetown University.
Throughout the search process, Dr. Teller demonstrated commitment to servant leadership, community building, and educational excellence, which stood out as qualities that align closely with the mission and values of St. Michael’s. His deep understanding of the independent school landscape in Southern Arizona, coupled with the trust and relationships he has built within the St. Michael’s community, will allow him to lead with continuity, collaboration, and purpose from day one.
As St. Michael’s looks to the future, the community does so with confidence and excitement. Dr. Teller’s appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter grounded in the school’s enduring values while embracing the opportunities ahead.
