Alex Whelehan

Director of East Coast Recruitment

Alex Whelehan is a graduate both The Town School and of The Dalton School in New York City and of Kenyon College in Gambier, OH. Alex Majored in English at Kenyon and continued her studies at New York University's Steinhardt School of Education in the field of English Education.  Alex has nearly twenty years of experience as a school administrator for both Admissions and Development.  

Alex returned to her home town upon graduating from Kenyon.  She began her admissions career at The Browning School in New York City where she was working as an assistant kindergarten teacher and as a cross country coach.  The Admissions Director thought Alex would enjoy the admissions office so she pulled Alex in to help with student assessments.  Following her time at Browning, Alex served as Associate Director of Admissions at The Town School, as Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at The Dwight School, and Director of Admissions, Financial  Aid, and Marketing  at The Rodeph Sholom School.  

When Alex and her family moved from New York City to her husband's home town on Long Island she found herself at Buckley Country Day School where she was Director of Development for seven years.  Later, Alex returned to admissions at East Woods School, her husband's alma mater, as Director of Admissions and Marketing. 

Alex served on the Board of The Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY) and on the board of The Association of Teachers in Independent Schools (ATIS).  Alex currently sits on the Board of the Cold Spring Harbor Educational Foundation.  

Alex and her family live in Cold Spring Harbor, New York.  In her free time Alex enjoys playing tennis, running, cooking, reading, and walking her sweet dog. Alex completed the New York City Marathon in 2015 and she hopes to run it again soon.
