Private School Fellowship Program
Purpose: "to create among students of color an increased awareness
of and participation in professional opportunities in independent schools."
How it works: Private/independent schools award a competitively based
monetary stipend to each of two students for one semester. Each selected student
agrees to immerse themselves in all aspects of the life and culture of one of
the designated schools for each school day for one semester.
Students are assigned a mentor and will have experiences in the classroom as
well as in school offices such as Admissions, Business, Development, and
Marketing. Additionally, they will attend faculty and PTA meetings, participate
(when appropriate) in faculty/parent conferences, work with extended day programs,
assist with after school sports and clubs, interact with school administration
and, if in a teacher education program, meet all requirements necessary for
credit such as developing lesson plans and teaching.
